Representative Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey's 5th district, took to social media on March 10, 2025, to address issues related to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. In a series of tweets, he expressed concerns over actions by the Trump Administration and certain members of Congress that he perceives as threats to these programs.

In his initial post on March 10, Gottheimer warned about what he describes as a "disastrous assault" on essential social safety nets by "The Trump Administration and far-right extremists in Congress." He emphasized his commitment to safeguarding these programs for the benefit of seniors, children, and families in New Jersey. "The Trump Administration and far-right extremists in Congress are launching a disastrous assault on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security."

In a subsequent tweet posted moments later, Gottheimer reiterated his determination to defend vulnerable populations' access to necessary benefits. He stated his intention to uphold "Jersey Values," advocating for lower costs and taxes while opposing any moves that might jeopardize senior citizens' well-being. "I’ll never stop fighting to ensure our most vulnerable can access the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security benefits they need and deserve."

Further addressing privacy concerns related to Social Security data management, Gottheimer introduced legislative efforts aimed at restricting access by private individuals or entities. He specifically mentioned Elon Musk in this context: "no one elected Elon Musk or entrusted him with your Social Security number." The proposed legislation is titled the Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act.
