Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey's 5th district since 2017, has announced a series of legislative initiatives aimed at expanding tax credits for families with children. These proposals were shared through his social media platform on February 4, 2025.
In one post, Rep. Gottheimer stated, "Second, I’m reintroducing the LITTLE Act, which will increase the Child & Dependent Care Tax Credit to $7.5K for one child and $15K for two or more." This initiative aims to provide greater financial relief to families managing childcare expenses.
Further elaborating on the proposed legislation, he mentioned that "This legislation will make payments available every month, so families don’t have to wait until the end of the year for support." He added that it also includes a "baby bonus," providing an additional $2,000 to new families regardless of when their child was born.
Additionally, Rep. Gottheimer is advocating for changes to the Child Tax Credit structure. He posted that "First, I’m sponsoring legislation to expand the Child Tax Credit to $300 per month, or $3,600 per year." This marks an increase from the current annual amount of $2,000 for children aged 6 to 17. For children under six years old, this amount would rise further to $360 monthly or $4,320 annually.
