Just in time for #NationalHotTeaDay! We recently received a large donation of mid-20th century teapots made by the celebrated New Jersey ceramics company, Stangl. These lovely examples are among 60+ teapots, each representing one of the vibrantly-colored patterns for which the company was known. Named after Martin Stangl, the company’s historical roots began with the Fulper company of Flemington, but production was later moved to Trenton.
Our teapot collection contains examples developed by Stangl designer Kathleen “Kay” Hackett (1919-2016). Her popular Fruit pattern (bottom left) was the company’s longest-running and best-selling pattern. Introduced in 1935, the bright, solid colors and streamlined forms of the Americana pattern (top left) are reminiscent of Fiesta ware – the popular American-made dinnerware that is still being produced in Newell, West Virginia.
