Happy Save the Eagles Day!
Originating right here in Ridgefield Park NJ, Save the Eagles Day has been observed each January 10 since 2015 when it was organized in response to a proposed removal of an eagle nest.
In 1967, Bald Eagles were put on the endangered species list until 2007 when they were officially delisted due to increased population. In 1973 the Endangered Species Act was passed, later followed by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
There are over 60 species of eagles, however only the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle can be seen in our great state. It is common for these feathered fellas to nest near bodies of water for easy access to food, so it is no wonder they love our Jersey Shore!
