2022 Award Winning Restoration Grants
The NJDEP Office of Natural Resource Restoration (ONRR) provided a $3,000,000 grant to the Township of Bloomfield for the restoration of a 4.2-acre former industrial site to native wetland habitat. Located at the confluence of Spring Brook and Third River, the new wetland is part of the 2022 NJ Future Smart Growth Award winning Lion Gate Park and Urban Wetland Floodplain Creation Project. Grant funding from ONRR was provided from natural resource damage settlement funds.
The ONRR also provided a $5,000,000 matching grant to the County of Passaic for the restoration of public access to the waterfront at Dundee Island Park. This 2022 NJ Future Smart Growth Award winning project restored safe waterfront access, including a riverwalk, amphitheater, picnic groves, playground and splash pad, and comfort station. Grant funding from ONRR was provided from natural resource damage settlement funds.
