Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has expressed his views on various issues affecting New Jersey and its residents through recent social media posts. The tweets address concerns over business development, utility bill increases, and inflation challenges faced by families.

On December 6, 2024, Rep. Gottheimer criticized the Congestion Tax in New York, stating that it could negatively impact business development in the city. He noted that "it’s no surprise that business owners are considering relocating to the Garden State because of it," emphasizing his view that "New Jersey is the best state there is to live, raise a family, and do business in." "The Congestion Tax is only going to hurt business development in NY"

Later on the same day, he addressed concerns about rising utility costs, advocating for more affordable living conditions. In a tweet posted at 19:52 UTC, he stated: "We can’t raise utility bills by 16% when folks are already struggling. We need to make life more affordable." To counteract this issue, Rep. Gottheimer introduced his "Lower Utility Bills Plan," aimed at reducing costs for families in New Jersey. "We can’t raise utility bills by 16% when folks are already struggling."

In another post made almost simultaneously, Rep. Gottheimer urged the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and utility providers to reconsider their decision to increase rates. He highlighted the financial burden on families dealing with inflation: "First and foremost, I’m calling on the @NJBPU and utility providers to immediately reconsider their decision to raise utility rates on families." "First and foremost, I’m calling on the @NJBPU and utility providers to immediately reconsider."
