Black Environmental Excellence: Celebrating #BlackHistoryMonth

The DEP is commemorating Black History Month by recognizing the important work of Black environmental leaders.

Among the many leaders to honor, we start with Kristal Hansley, the first Black woman to launch a Black-owned community energy company.

On Juneteenth in 2020, Hansley started WeSolar, which provides affordable energy to under-resourced communities and assists commercial properties with energy efficiency.
