In a post on April 5, 2025, Gottheimer criticized the firing of the entire staff at the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program by the Trump Administration. According to him, this action "will only mean higher energy costs and more chaos, instead of making life more affordable."
Later on the same day, Gottheimer addressed the economic repercussions of new tariffs imposed by the administration. He pointed out that "Trump’s new tariffs will send car prices soaring — increasing new-car prices anywhere from $3,500 to more than $12,000."
