Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey's 5th District since 2017, has expressed his stance on the Congestion Tax implemented by New York City through a series of tweets. Gottheimer, born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA and later earned a JD from Harvard University.

On March 20, 2025, Gottheimer tweeted that he is sending a letter to E-ZPass urging them to cease charging families entering the Congestion Zone starting March 21. He stated: "Third, I’m sending a letter to E-ZPass, calling on them to stop charging families who go into the Congestion Zone starting March 21."

In another tweet on the same day, Gottheimer accused E-ZPass of taking money unjustly from commuters and encouraged New Jersey families to monitor their charges closely. He said: "They must return every single dime they are stealing from hard-working Jersey commuters."

Additionally, Gottheimer announced plans to communicate with the New Jersey Department of Transportation regarding billing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for any charges incurred by New Jersey families after the deadline. He tweeted: "Second, I’m writing to the @NewJerseyDOT asking them to bill @MTA every week for charges to Jersey families after the deadline."
