Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey's 5th district, has recently taken to social media to express his concerns over antisemitism and national security threats posed by foreign data collection. His statements highlight legislative efforts aimed at addressing these issues.

On February 6, 2025, Rep. Gottheimer emphasized the need for action against antisemitic rhetoric, stating: "We can’t stand idly by as protesters call for the death of Jews." He mentioned his previous success in passing the Antisemitism Awareness Act through the House with bipartisan support and expressed frustration over its stagnation in the Senate.

Later that day, he addressed concerns about data privacy and national security risks involving DeepSeek. He stated: "DeepSeek is collecting the sensitive data of American citizens and sending it directly to the Chinese Communist Party — a national security threat." In response, he announced plans to introduce bipartisan legislation to ban DeepSeek from all U.S. government devices.

Continuing on February 7, 2025, Rep. Gottheimer reiterated his stance on protecting national security with new legislation titled "No DeepSeek on Government Devices Act." He stated: "We’ve seen China’s playbook stealing American’s data before, and they are trying to do it again with DeepSeek." The proposed act aims to prevent potential infiltration by ensuring that government devices remain secure from foreign interference.
