From January to November 2022…
116 miles of tidal shoreline were cleaned
1.48M pounds of debris was removed
All thanks to Clean Shores, a year-round program that utilizes State inmate details to conduct daily clean-ups along tidal shorelines, such as back bays and beaches. Typically, the detail removes floatable debris like wood, litter, and plastic waste. Shorelines that have been left unattended serve as reservoirs for floatable debris and trash that can be dispersed during coastal storms and extreme high tides. Removing this trash and debris prevents it from washing up on recreational beaches, becoming floating hazards to navigation, or impacting marine life and sensitive ecosystems.
