Rep. Josh Gottheimer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district, has recently taken to social media to discuss his legislative efforts and views on constitutional rights. His recent posts reflect a focus on mental health funding, educational initiatives, and constitutional protections.
On May 15, 2025, Rep. Gottheimer announced that he is “leading 20 of my colleagues in Congress in a letter to the House Appropriations Committee to fight for the highest possible level of funding for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in the next fiscal year’s budget.” Link
In another post on the same day, he introduced new legislation: “Second, I’m introducing the Saving Students with Software Act to help schools afford life-saving suicide prevention software. Suicide prevention software can track potentially dangerous messages or searches students make online, which then prompts calls to parents or home visits.” Link
Later that evening, Rep. Gottheimer expressed support for birthright citizenship as outlined by the Constitution: “The 14th Amendment is clear: the Constitution protects birthright citizenship. Proud to see New Jersey leading the charge and taking the Jersey fight to the Supreme Court to defend the Constitution and protect our civil rights.” Link
Josh Gottheimer has served in Congress since replacing Scott Garrett in 2017. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and now residing in Wyckoff, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA before earning a JD from Harvard University.
