Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who has represented New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, posted a series of messages on social media addressing school safety and cultural celebrations.
On February 17, 2026, Gottheimer marked the anniversary of the Parkland shooting with a call for improved school safety measures: “This month, we marked 8 years since the tragic Parkland shooting. A former constituent of mine, 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff, was killed that day. Schools still need better, safer ways to communicate during an emergency — When seconds really count, silent alarms in schools can”. The post references Alyssa Alhadeff, one of the victims from New Jersey’s 5th district.
Later that same day, Gottheimer recognized Lunar New Year with well wishes: “Today, we’re celebrating the Lunar New Year! Wishing everyone peace, happiness, and prosperity in the Year of the Fire Horse!” (posted February 17).
He also extended greetings for Ramadan on February 18: “Ramadan Mubarak to those in North Jersey and around the world during this month of reflection, peace, and prayer!”.
Gottheimer’s public service began after defeating Scott Garrett in 2017 to represent New Jersey’s 5th district. He was born in Livingston in 1975 and resides in Wyckoff. His educational background includes a BA from the University of Pennsylvania (1997) and a JD from Harvard University (2004).
