In his post on April 23, 2025, Gottheimer expressed concern about families facing financial hardships, stating, “Right now, too many families are being forced to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table. No one in Jersey, or anywhere across the country, should have to make that choice.” He emphasized efforts to provide economic relief to families burdened by utility expenses.
Later that day, Gottheimer highlighted the need for advanced tools to combat fraud, stating, “We need 21st-century tools to crack down on fraudsters who use every trick in the book to swindle Americans out of billions of dollars every year.” He declared his support for the bipartisan GUARD Act, aiming to enhance law enforcement’s technological capabilities against fraud.
In an additional statement on April 23, 2025, Gottheimer called for a change in leadership at the U.S. Secretary of Defense, noting, “.@SecDef Pete Hegseth must be replaced by someone who can properly protect America’s classified information and the lives of our brave service members.” He criticized Hegseth’s actions as potentially harmful to national security.
Gottheimer, 48, born in Livingston, New Jersey, has been serving in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Scott Garrett. He resides in Wyckoff and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor from Harvard University.
