Rep. Josh Gottheimer, U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, addressed a range of local and national issues in a series of posts on July 19, 2025.

On July 19, Gottheimer highlighted the recognition of community members in his district: “Yesterday, I honored more than 20 residents as Fifth District Hometown Heroes! All of these Hometown Heroes have bravely stepped up to better their communities and support our neighbors in North Jersey. For that, I will always be grateful.” (July 19, 2025)

Later that day, he criticized former President Trump’s trade policies and promoted legislative action: “President Trump’s tariffs will jack up the cost of lifesaving medications while slamming the brakes on critical research for new treatments — with major consequences for Jersey’s economy and innovation. It’s time to pass my bipartisan Trade Review Act to ensure Jersey families” (July 19, 2025).

In another post on July 19, Gottheimer condemned an administrative decision regarding mental health services: “The Trump Administration’s decision to not just slash — but completely eliminate — the 988 LGBTQ+ suicide prevention program will put countless lives at risk. That’s why I joined my colleagues in a letter to @SecKennedy, sounding the alarm on the Administration’s plan. I’ll” (July 19, 2025).

Gottheimer has served New Jersey’s 5th District since defeating Scott Garrett in the 2016 election. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, he holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
