Rep. Josh Gottheimer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district, has expressed his concerns over recent actions by former President Donald Trump and certain members of Congress through a series of tweets. His remarks focus on the implications for New Jersey families and the state’s budget.
On June 8, 2025, Gottheimer stated that “gutting critical lifelines that hundreds of thousands of Jersey families rely on is heartless and cruel.” He emphasized the negative impact this would have on New Jersey’s budget, describing it as a “multi-billion-dollar hole,” while criticizing President Trump and far-right members of Congress for their approach.
The following day, June 9, 2025, Gottheimer criticized Trump’s policies again. He tweeted that “President Trump has launched an all-out assault on our Jersey Values — whacking families with $2,400 in additional costs from his reckless tariffs”. He also mentioned attempts to reduce Medicaid funding and the increase in national debt under Trump’s administration.
Later on June 9, 2025, Gottheimer addressed what he called Trump’s “Summer Fun Tax,” stating that it “will raise costs on everything from grills to swimsuits to pool floats — all because of his reckless tariffs.” In response, he announced plans to introduce new legislation aimed at counteracting these measures and reducing costs.
Josh Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in 1997 and later obtained a JD from Harvard University in 2004.
