On March 5, 2025, Rep. Gottheimer tweeted about the financial strain faced by Jersey families due to rising egg prices and new tariffs imposed by President Trump. He stated that “While President Trump celebrates gutting support for Jersey families, he has done nothing to lower costs.” He added that these tariffs could cost families an additional $2,000 annually.
In another tweet on the same day, Gottheimer emphasized the need for a bipartisan approach to government efficiency. He remarked that “As I’ve said before, I’m all for making government more efficient, but we need a comprehensive, bipartisan plan to get it done — not chaos.” He criticized actions taken by Trump and DOGE as detrimental to hardworking families and national safety.
Further expressing concern over increased taxes on everyday goods due to new tariffs from Canada and Mexico, Rep. Gottheimer tweeted “President Trump’s plan is to whack Jersey families and the rest of the country with more taxes on everyday goods.” He highlighted how these measures would raise costs for essential items such as groceries and gas.
