Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has taken to social media to express his views on several legislative issues. With a background that includes a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Harvard University, Gottheimer resides in Wyckoff and continues to be an active voice in Congress.
On June 16, 2025, Gottheimer addressed the Supreme Court’s recent decision allowing DOGE officials access to Americans’ Social Security numbers. He labeled this decision as “flat-out dangerous” and announced his involvement in introducing the Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act aimed at safeguarding private information. “Last week’s Supreme Court decision allowing DOGE officials to access Americans’ Social Security numbers is flat-out dangerous.”
Later that day, Gottheimer discussed the importance of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which supports nearly six million families nationwide. He criticized efforts by President Biden’s administration to dismantle LIHEAP and reaffirmed his commitment to protecting it while also advocating for lower utility bills. “Nearly 6 million families — and 240,000 in Jersey — rely on LIHEAP to keep the heat on in the winter and the AC running in the summer.”
In recognition of Animal Rights Awareness Week, Gottheimer highlighted his dedication to animal welfare by announcing bipartisan legislation aimed at combating animal cruelty. This initiative seeks to empower law enforcement agencies with better tools for prosecuting abusers of animals. “This Animal Rights Awareness Week, we must stand up for our cherished companions and ensure all animals are treated with the care and dignity they deserve.”
