Josh Gottheimer, a representative serving New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, has recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding New York’s Congestion Tax and related issues affecting New Jersey commuters. Gottheimer, who replaced Scott Garrett in 2017, has been vocal about transportation challenges impacting his constituents.

On March 20, 2025, Gottheimer took to Twitter to voice his stance on the Congestion Tax imposed by New York and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). He stated, “If New York and the MTA continue with the Congestion Tax after tomorrow, I strongly urge @NewJerseyOAG to immediately pursue all legal options to stop New York’s Congestion Tax.”

In another tweet posted on the same day, he criticized the MTA for not adhering to federal directives. He remarked that efforts must be made to protect residents of New Jersey from what he describes as a financial burden imposed by New York. He said, “First, the MTA can’t just blatantly violate the federal directive. We must fight to protect hard-working Jersey families from New York’s cash grab.”

Additionally, Gottheimer addressed issues with NYE-ZPass systems affecting commuters from New Jersey. On March 20, 2025, he urged for improvements in their operations: “I’m also calling on NYE-ZPass to fix their broken system that prevents Jersey commuters from challenging New York’s fraudulent charges. Instead of making life harder for our families, E-ZPass should start living up to its name.”
