Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, marked the second anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel with a series of posts on his social media account. In his messages, Gottheimer addressed the ongoing rise in antisemitism and announced new educational initiatives.
On October 6, 2025, Gottheimer posted: “This week, we mark two years since Hamas’s devastating October 7 attack on Israel, and we’ve witnessed a tidal wave of antisemitism since that seems to only grow. Education must be part of our response. I’m announcing new action to create an October 7th remembrance curriculum”.
The following day, he reflected on the events of October 7, 2023, stating: “It’s hard to believe that it’s been two years since Hamas terrorists brutally murdered, raped, burned alive, decapitated, and kidnapped more than 1,200 innocent babies, children, women, men, and elderly, including dozens of Americans. We will not sit by idly. We will do as”.
Later on October 7, Gottheimer commented on current diplomatic efforts in the region: “It’s October 7, and there is a peace agreement on the table. Where are all the activists pushing Hamas to take the deal that Israel has already accepted and that the Arab States and the U.S. support? It will free the hostages, get aid into the hands of innocent Gazans, and force”.
Gottheimer’s remarks come as communities observe two years since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel in 2023—a violent event in which over 1,200 people were killed or kidnapped. His announcement for an October 7th remembrance curriculum aims to address rising antisemitism through education.
Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997 with a BA and earned a JD from Harvard University in 2004.
