Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently addressed several issues through his social media platform. Gottheimer, who succeeded Scott Garrett in Congress and holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, highlighted concerns ranging from outdated technology affecting air traffic control to adoption processes in New York.
On May 10, 2025, Gottheimer shared an incident involving communication disruptions between controllers and planes due to a fried copper wire. He emphasized the need for technological upgrades by stating “No more copper wires. No more outdated technology. We are the greatest country in the world — it’s time to upgrade”.
Later that day, he tweeted about his involvement in facilitating an adoption process hindered by state bureaucracy. He mentioned stepping in to assist Kara with obtaining necessary subsidies for adopting her son. He expressed satisfaction with the outcome: “I’m glad to have helped this family cut through the red tape and complete the process of adopting her son.”
On May 11, 2025, Gottheimer turned his attention to a shortage of air traffic controllers in a region responsible for 20% of the nation’s GDP flow. He urged action from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), proposing expedited certification for military combat controllers interested in transitioning to FAA roles: “Let’s fix the shortage and get our airports back on track.”
Josh Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff.
