Rep. Josh Gottheimer, U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, posted a series of updates on August 21, 2025, addressing issues ranging from senior citizens’ rights and local weather safety to international affairs.
In his first post marking Senior Citizen Day, Gottheimer wrote: “This Senior Citizen Day, we celebrate the countless contributions that seniors make every day in our communities! I’ll keep fighting to protect Medicare, Social Security, and other hard-earned benefits from far-right extremist attacks.” (August 21, 2025)
Later that afternoon, he addressed concerns about severe weather impacting his district: “As Hurricane Erin continues to threaten the Jersey Shore with flooding and dangerous rip currents, please stay safe and take proper precautions. Stay alert and continue to monitor floor warnings throughout the weekend.” (August 21, 2025)
That evening, Gottheimer commented on international tensions involving Russia and Ukraine: “For months, Vladimir Putin has played games to slow-walk peace talks while continuing to bomb innocent Ukrainian civilians. We must apply crushing sanctions and force the Kremlin to the negotiating table. The U.S. must stand with Ukraine, our democratic ally, against Putin’s” (August 21, 2025)
Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District since succeeding Scott Garrett in Congress in 2017. He was born in Livingston in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
