Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, used his Twitter account on May 22, 2026, to address rising antisemitism and express support for the Jewish community and Israel.
In a tweet posted at 13:00 UTC, Gottheimer stated, “As antisemitism rises around the world, I will keep standing up unapologetically for the Jewish community and for America’s closest ally in the Middle East. We should feel proud of the U.S.-Israel relationship. I am grateful we have Israel to help us fight terror, to stand for”.
Later that day at 16:00 UTC, he extended holiday greetings by posting, “Chag Sameach from my family to yours! Wishing everyone a meaningful Shavuot filled with learning and celebration of our Jewish history.”
At 19:00 UTC on the same day, Gottheimer further commented on hate-driven incidents targeting Jewish communities: “There should be zero tolerance for antisemitic-driven hatred that we’re seeing right now. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to terrorize communities of faith. We cannot normalize this hatred.”
Josh Gottheimer has served in Congress since defeating Scott Garrett in 2017 and represents constituents in New Jersey’s 5th District. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, Gottheimer holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
