Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing issues ranging from public health to community tragedies.
On July 28, 2025, Gottheimer announced new legislative efforts to combat Lyme disease, referencing personal experiences with the illness: “Too many families here in Jersey have seen the impacts of Lyme disease — including my loved ones who’ve battled it for years. That’s why I’m announcing new legislation that fights back against its spread. Lyme is a silent attacker — it’s time to fight back aggressively.”
Later that day, he expressed condolences following the death of Army Cadet Neil Edara from Ridgewood: “I’m heartbroken to learn of the passing of my constituent, 22-year-old Army Cadet Neil Edara of Ridgewood, during training. Neil had a bright future ahead, dedicated to serving our country. I’m praying for his family, friends, and our entire Ridgewood community.”
On July 29, Gottheimer responded to news of a mass shooting in New York: “I’m heartbroken by the devastating shooting that took multiple lives and injured many others yesterday in New York. My prayers are with the families of all the victims, including NYPD Officer Didarul Islam. We must do more to keep our communities safe from senseless acts of gun”.
Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District since replacing Scott Garrett in 2017 and resides in Wyckoff. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently aged 48, he holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
