Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on October 8, 2025, addressing topics ranging from commemorations of the October 7 attacks to ongoing domestic policy debates and international conflict resolution efforts.
In his first post of the day, Gottheimer reflected on a recent community event: “I was proud to join Kaplen JCC on the Palisades @JCCOTP’s two-year commemoration of the October 7 attacks this week, along with Edan Alexander’s incredible parents and so many families from across North Jersey. We cannot forget the more than 1,200 murdered, the 251 taken that” (October 8, 2025).
Later that afternoon, he addressed economic concerns affecting Americans: “Millions of Americans are going to see their health care costs go up — on top of the rising cost of child care, energy bills, and food. I’m hopeful that Republicans will come to the table, work with us to reopen the government, and extend ACA premium tax credits to help keep” (October 8, 2025).
In an evening update focused on foreign affairs and security issues in Gaza, Gottheimer wrote: “I’m optimistic we are heading toward a deal to end the war in Gaza — but when dealing with terrorists, you have to be cautious. We must get the hostages out, surge aid into the region, and Hamas must lay down their arms.” (October 8, 2025).
Gottheimer has served as a member of Congress for New Jersey’s 5th District since replacing Scott Garrett in 2017. He was born in Livingston in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. His educational background includes a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Harvard University.
