Representative Josh Gottheimer, who has served New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed several issues of public concern in a series of posts on social media. The topics included rising electricity costs in New Jersey, decisions regarding Holocaust education materials, and changes to Social Security phone support under the Trump Administration.
On July 10, 2025, Gottheimer highlighted a significant increase in electric bills for New Jersey residents over the past year. He stated that “Electric bills in Jersey increased by 40% last year — and our power grid operator PJM’s failed electricity auction played a big role. That’s why I’m demanding answers from PJM on how they’re working to prevent another rate hike this year. Jersey families can’t afford another.”
Later that day, Gottheimer commented on recent actions by NEA members regarding educational materials about antisemitism and the Holocaust. He posted: “At a time of record antisemitic violence and rising ignorance about the Holocaust, @NEAToday members’ decision to stop using @ADL materials on antisemitism and Holocaust education is dangerous and deeply concerning. Teaching students about hate and history should never be.”
On July 11, 2025, he addressed issues related to Social Security services during the Trump Administration: “The Trump Administration slashed phone support for @SocialSecurity, and now they’re scrambling to get this critical resource back online — pulling staff from already understaffed field offices. Just more chaos with no clear strategy from the Trump Administration — and our.”
Josh Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania (1997) and a JD from Harvard University (2004).
