Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, addressed several issues on his social media account on May 7, 2026, including antisemitism in Bergen County, the dangers of AI-generated deepfakes, and concerns about cuts to school meal programs.
On May 7, Gottheimer highlighted rising antisemitic incidents in his home state and across the country. He posted: “Bergen County was the No. 1 county in New Jersey for antisemitic incidents in 2025, according to @ADL’s new report. Nationwide? Antisemitic incidents are up 70 percent since Oct 7.
This is beyond unacceptable for Jersey and our nation. We must fight this scourge of hate.” (May 7, 2026)
Later that day, he commented on the proliferation of digitally manipulated images targeting public figures: “Fake AI-generated images of Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni are circulating online — completely fabricated.
Deepfakes can destroy reputations and spread lies in minutes. We need stronger protections against this kind of content.” (May 7, 2026)
In another post concerning federal policy and its impact on children in New Jersey, Gottheimer criticized ongoing cuts to school meal programs: “You can’t propel a rocket without fuel. The same goes for students.
My Feed Our Kids Act will change that by:
Providing free” (May 7, 2026)
Gottheimer has been serving as a congressman since defeating Scott Garrett in the November 2016 election and officially taking office in January 2017. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, he holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania (1997) and a JD from Harvard University (2004).
