The Township of Mahwah announced on May 22 that Karen Drive and Lynn Terrace will undergo roadway milling and paving beginning Thursday, May 28, weather permitting. The work is expected to impact local traffic as both roads will be closed from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the scheduled construction.
The improvements are part of a project funded by the Township of Mahwah in conjunction with a Bergen County Community Development Block Grant. The township said that every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience for residents, but delays should be expected while the work is underway.
On May 28, crews will mill both roads. No parking signs will be posted at least one day before the start of work, and vehicles must be removed from the streets by 7:00 AM on the day of milling. While access for local traffic—including school buses, deliveries, garbage and recycling pickups, landscapers, and emergency vehicles—will be maintained as much as possible during this phase, some delays are anticipated. Access to residential driveways will also be provided during milling operations.
Paving is scheduled for Friday, May 29. On this day, no access to either road or residential driveways will be allowed between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Residents who need vehicle access must move their cars before work begins. Services such as buses or garbage collection vehicles will not have access during paving hours.
Asphalt tact—a material required for proper asphalt adhesion—will be applied up to two hours before paving starts. The township cautioned residents not to walk or drive on tacked surfaces because it can stick to tires, shoes, or pet paws; any resulting damage or injury is not covered by the contractor.
Residents with questions are encouraged to contact Township Engineer Michael J. Kelly at (201) 529-5757 extension 255 or mkelly@mahwahtwp.org. Updates about scheduling changes can also be found on MahwahTwp.org.
