Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 17, 2025, addressing cryptocurrency regulation and condemning antisemitic rhetoric.
In his first post on July 17, Gottheimer wrote, “This week, Congress has the opportunity to ensure that the U.S. leads the world on innovation in crypto, and I’m proud to support the GENIUS and CLARITY Acts. This industry is the Wild West right now. I’m fighting for clear rules of the road to protect American consumers,” emphasizing his backing for new legislative measures aimed at regulating digital assets.
Later that day, Gottheimer highlighted New Jersey’s significant engagement with cryptocurrency: “New Jersey ranks second nationwide in crypto ownership by proportion. While this space has tremendous economic potential, we need rules of the road to protect consumers and ensure America continues to lead on crypto. The CLARITY Act takes commonsense steps to protect your”. The statement underlines both economic opportunities and regulatory needs as cryptocurrency use expands.
In a separate message posted on July 17, Gottheimer addressed hate speech concerns: “‘Globalize the Intifada’ is hate speech, full stop. This antisemitic slogan refers to a wave of terror that killed over a thousand Jews. I’m proud to introduce a resolution condemning this dangerous phrase. There should be no ambiguity here — all leaders must come together and”. He called for unified leadership in denouncing such rhetoric.
Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District since 2017 after replacing Scott Garrett. He was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. Gottheimer holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
