Gottheimer, who succeeded Scott Garrett and holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, highlighted his stance on Medicaid cuts, Iran’s nuclear program, and clean energy investments.
On July 2, 2025, Gottheimer addressed the issue of Medicaid cuts by stating that “Far-right extremists are slashing Medicaid — ripping away access to basic health care, essential medications, and nursing care from nearly 12 million Americans.” He emphasized his commitment to defending “Jersey Values” and protecting seniors and families reliant on this healthcare service.
Later that day, Gottheimer turned his attention to international security concerns. He tweeted about Iran’s nuclear ambitions saying “Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terror and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans.” He advocated for maintaining maximum deterrence as Iran rebuilds its nuclear program and mentioned his bipartisan Bunker Buster Act designed to support Israel in deterring Iranian threats.
In another tweet on July 2, he criticized efforts to reduce investments in clean energy sectors. He remarked that “By gutting the critical investments I fought for — including for electric vehicles and clean energy — extremists are slashing American jobs and raising utility bills for Jersey families.” Gottheimer reiterated his commitment to lowering costs for families rather than increasing their financial burdens.
Josh Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. His educational background includes a BA from the University of Pennsylvania obtained in 1997 and a JD from Harvard University earned in 2004.
