Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, posted several messages on social media between May 7 and May 8, 2026, highlighting local student achievements, condemning hate speech, and commemorating Victory Day in Europe.
On May 7, Gottheimer celebrated the accomplishments of young artists from North Jersey, writing: “I love this showcase! It’s always incredible to see just how talented our North Jersey students are. Their creativity, courage, and hard work represent the very best of our community. Proud to celebrate these young artists and help bring a piece of Jersey to the halls of the” (May 7, 2026).
Later that day, he addressed the dangers of hate speech from all political perspectives: “Hatred is hatred, period. It doesn’t matter whether it comes from the far right or the far left. When influential voices spread conspiracy theories, promote terrorism, or dehumanize Jewish people, it fuels real-world violence and intimidation. We must stand up and speak out.” (May 7, 2026).
On May 8, Gottheimer marked Victory Day in Europe by honoring those who fought against Nazi tyranny: “Today, we mark Victory Day in Europe, honoring the courage and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation that defeated Nazi tyranny and secured our freedom. Eighty-one years later, those ideals remain just as urgent: democracy demands defending, alliances are essential, and freedom” (May 8, 2026).
Gottheimer has served as representative for New Jersey’s 5th district since defeating Scott Garrett in 2017. He was born in Livingston in 1975 and resides in Wyckoff. He holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania (1997) and a JD from Harvard University (2004).
