Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently shared his perspectives on various issues via social media. The congressman, who succeeded Scott Garrett in office and holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University, highlighted concerns ranging from local security measures to international agreements.
On May 14, 2025, Gottheimer expressed his commitment to ensuring safety during the upcoming FIFA World Cup hosted by New York/New Jersey. He noted his efforts in “fighting to secure federal support and resources for Jersey’s state and local law enforcement to ensure everyone’s safety during the FIFA World Cup.” His comments came after meeting with Alex Lasry, CEO of the NY/NJ 2026 World Cup Host Committee.
Later that day, Gottheimer addressed alarming reports regarding outdated equipment at Newark Airport. Citing a Fortune Magazine article, he stated “The FAA has resorted to buying parts on eBay because its equipment is so old.” He called for immediate action from Secretary Duffy to invest in technology upgrades at the airport.
In another post on May 14, Gottheimer discussed international security concerns involving missile attacks on Israel by the Houthis. Despite an agreement brokered by President Trump with the group, he criticized ongoing hostilities and demanded clarity from the former president about how this deal ensures Israel’s safety. He wrote: “The Houthis — a U.S.-designated terrorist group — continue to fire missiles at Israel, despite President Trump’s agreement with them.”
Josh Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff.
