Rep. Josh Gottheimer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, took to social media on July 4, 2025, to express his thoughts on various issues ranging from national celebrations to international diplomacy and domestic policy.
In a post celebrating Independence Day, Gottheimer shared his pride in joining North Jersey’s families and communities in marking the birth of the United States. He described it as “the greatest democracy in the world,” emphasizing appreciation for those who work daily to protect American freedoms. “Happy Independence Day! I am proud to join North Jersey’s families, friends, and neighbors in celebrating the birth of our great nation…” he wrote.
Later that day, Gottheimer addressed concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions following statements by Iran’s UN Ambassador about uranium enrichment. He urged for continued U.S. pressure on Iran while supporting Israel as a key ally. “Iran’s UN Ambassador made it clear: they have no intention of stopping uranium enrichment…” he asserted.
Concluding his series of posts on July 4th, Gottheimer criticized former President Trump’s economic policies, particularly tariffs and a proposed tax hike bill. He claimed these measures increased financial burdens on families in New Jersey with what he termed a “$3,300 Trump Tax.” “President Trump promised to make life more affordable…” he remarked.
Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and resides in Wyckoff. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University Law School, he has been an active political figure since replacing Scott Garrett in Congress.
