Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has been vocal on social media regarding his stance on recent legislative developments. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, Gottheimer is known for his educational background with a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Harvard University.
On July 3, 2025, Gottheimer expressed strong opposition to what he referred to as “Trump’s Tax Hike Bill,” claiming it would significantly impact families in New Jersey. He stated that the bill would “jack up utility bills, kick seniors out of nursing homes, and take food away from hungry children.” According to him, this legislation would result in an additional $3,300 per year tax burden for Jersey families.
In another post later that day at the Capitol, Gottheimer reiterated his disapproval by calling it “the Big F’ed Up Bill.” He emphasized his commitment to protecting vulnerable groups such as seniors and children from cuts to essential services like healthcare and energy.
Additionally, Gottheimer showed support for fellow congressman Hakeem Jeffries by acknowledging his efforts on behalf of the American people. In a tweet directed at Jeffries on July 3rd, he praised him for “always fighting for the American people with grit and principle.”
