Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has been vocal about several pressing issues through his social media posts. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, Gottheimer has a background in law with degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
On May 5, 2025, Gottheimer criticized President Trump’s budget proposal for eliminating the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which supports nearly six million families nationwide and 240,000 in New Jersey. He described the move as “reckless and cruel” and emphasized his commitment to protecting LIHEAP through his Lower Utility Bills Plan. “Nearly 6 million families nationwide — and 240,000 in Jersey — rely on LIHEAP to help pay their heating and cooling bills.”
In another post on May 6, 2025, Gottheimer extended greetings for Cinco de Mayo, acknowledging the contributions of Mexican-American communities to the strength of New Jersey and other parts of the country. “Happy Cinco de Mayo! Jersey and communities across the country are stronger because of the contributions of our proud Mexican-American community!”
Later that day, Gottheimer expressed outrage over President Trump meeting with Enrique Tarrio, leader of a group identified as antisemitic and white supremacist. He called this action “absolutely disgusting” and urged President Trump to denounce Tarrio’s views. “Absolutely disgusting — the President of the United States sat down with convicted felon Enrique Tarrio.”
