Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th District since 2017, recently shared his concerns on social media regarding the financial contributions of New Jersey residents to New York. Gottheimer has been vocal about issues affecting his constituents, particularly in relation to taxation and infrastructure management.
On February 20, 2025, Gottheimer highlighted the financial burden on New Jersey residents who pay substantial taxes to New York. He stated, “Jersey residents pay $4.3 billion in taxes to New York every year, yet the Governor continues to take them for granted.”
In another post on the same day, he expressed his support for various professionals commuting from New Jersey to New York. He remarked that recent comments were “a slap in the face to the cops, firefighters, nurses, teachers, and countless other professionals who commute to New York every day to work, contribute to the economy, and support local businesses.”
Further addressing infrastructure issues on February 20th as well, Gottheimer criticized what he described as mismanagement by a key transportation authority. He asserted that “Hardworking Jersey families should not be forced to continue to bail out the MTA’s woeful and legendary mismanagement.”
