Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, voiced concerns on social media regarding media coverage of recent events and the safety of Jewish communities.
On May 13, 2026, Gottheimer posted a message directed at The New York Times and columnist Nick Kristof: “WTF @nytimes! Nick Kristof amplifies proven Hamas-affiliated sources and their propaganda, while the NYT continues to gloss over the systematic sexual violence, rape, and mutilation Hamas committed on October 7, now fully documented in the new Civil Commission report. We should”.
Later that day, he continued by questioning public reaction to attacks on Jewish communities: “Where is the outrage? Where are the wall-to-wall headlines? For months, Jewish communities have faced firebombings, assaults, threats, and terror — and too many people have looked away or treated it as politically inconvenient. As Iran uses social media as a tool to terrorize”.
In another post on May 13, Gottheimer addressed issues related to doxxing and community protection: “You can’t protect our communities if you can’t protect the people who sacrifice everything for us. Doxxing isn’t harmless. It is targeted intimidation against the men and women who keep our families safe — and our laws have not kept up with this threat. We must always get the https://t.co/AjocOUUgIv”.
Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District since succeeding Scott Garrett in 2017. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997 before earning a law degree from Harvard University in 2004.
