Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has recently expressed his concerns on various national issues through social media. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975, Gottheimer holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
On June 5, 2025, Gottheimer commented on a recent Congressional Budget Office report regarding a budget bill passed by the House. He stated that “According to yesterday’s CBO report, the far-right budget bill that extremists jammed through the House would rip away health care from 10.9 million Americans and add $2.4 trillion to the national debt.” He further explained his opposition by saying, “It’s why I voted NO. It’s an assault on our families and future.”
Later that day, he criticized a presidential appointment concerning national security leadership. Gottheimer noted that “.@POTUS just appointed a 22-year-old, one year out of college with zero national security experience, to lead the office responsible for combating targeted violence.” He described this decision as “downright dangerous and completely insane,” especially during times of increased antisemitic violence.
In another post on June 5, Gottheimer shared his relief over the recovery of remains from Gaza. He expressed his sentiments by stating “After more than 600 days, I am relieved that the remains of Judi Weinstein-Haggai and Gadi Haggai have been recovered from Gaza and returned to Israel.” He hoped their family could find closure after enduring such pain and emphasized the importance of continuing efforts until all hostages are accounted for.
