Rep. Josh Gottheimer, serving New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently tweeted about several current issues on May 3, 2025. Known for his service to the community, Gottheimer frequently addresses legislative and administrative developments impacting his constituents. In this series of tweets, he discusses staffing issues at the Federal Aviation Administration, gun safety legislation, and military appreciation.
On May 3, 2025, Gottheimer commented on the staffing shortage at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He stated, “This is what happens when you slash more workers at the FAA during a record staffing shortage. Just more chaos from the Trump Administration.”
Later that day, he expressed concern over the Trump Administration’s actions related to gun safety programs. A previous major legislative effort, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which he helped to draft and pass, faces challenges due to recent administrative decisions. Gottheimer pointed out, “I was proud to help write and pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act – the first major gun safety legislation in decades, which made significant investments in gun violence prevention. Now, the Trump Administration is slashing grants for these programs. These moves will not”
Concluding his posts on the same day, Gottheimer recognized Military Appreciation Month with a tribute to service members. He tweeted his acknowledgement of their essential roles, stating, “During Military Appreciation Month — and every month — we salute the brave men and women who protect and defend our country. We are forever grateful for your service, sacrifice, and strength.”
Josh Gottheimer, 48, born in Livingston, New Jersey, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1997 with a BA and later from Harvard University in 2004 with a JD. He currently resides in Wyckoff.
