Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, marked the second anniversary of October 7th with a series of public statements and legislative announcements on social media.
On October 7, 2025, Gottheimer posted, “On the second anniversary of October 7th, we fight to honor the memory of those killed and captured, and we mold our pain from that tragic day into action. Today, I’m announcing: – Bipartisan legislation to award the Congressional Gold Medal — the highest civilian honor from https://t.co/QjSkDxp1tI”. The post referenced bipartisan efforts to commemorate victims through new legislation.
Later that evening, Gottheimer extended holiday greetings to his constituents and others observing Sukkot. In his message dated October 7, 2025, he wrote, “Wishing a Chag Sukkot Sameach to all who celebrate! May this week be filled with gratitude, peace, and the warmth of family and community. https://t.co/haq3zk4dch”.
The following morning, Gottheimer shared his participation in a vigil organized by @bringhomenow in Washington. He stated on October 8, 2025: “Honored to join the 10/7 vigil held by @bringhomenow this morning in Washington, along with survivors like Edan Alexander and so many other families. On this tragic day, we hold the names of those viciously killed and those held captive in Gaza close to our hearts, and we repeat https://t.co/pmO55rxgmd”.
Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017 after succeeding Scott Garrett. He was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania and holds a law degree from Harvard University.
