Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congress member representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has been vocal about various national and international issues in recent social media posts. The congressman, who was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff, shared his views on federal security funding, military honors, and nuclear negotiations with Iran.
On June 3, 2025, Gottheimer addressed the pressing need for increased federal security assistance following two antisemitic attacks within a fortnight. He emphasized the necessity for additional funding to protect places of worship through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. In his words: “In the wake of two horrific antisemitic attacks in just two weeks, the urgency and need for additional federal security assistance is incredibly clear.”
Later that day, he criticized a decision to rename a Navy ship that honored Harvey Milk, describing it as an act motivated by hate rather than leadership. He stated: “Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? Renaming a Navy ship that honored Harvey Milk — a veteran and trailblazer — isn’t leadership. It’s hate, plain and simple.”
The following day on June 4, 2025, Gottheimer turned his attention to international diplomacy concerning Iran’s nuclear capabilities. He underscored the importance of ensuring Iran never acquires nuclear weapons capability and expressed concern over reports suggesting otherwise: “As negotiations with Iran continue, the U.S. must make one thing clear: Iran can never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.”
