Representative Josh Gottheimer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress for New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has expressed substantial concern over recent adjustments by the Trump Administration regarding firefighter cancer research and the World Trade Center Health Program. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975, Gottheimer resides in Wyckoff and holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
On May 1, 2025, Gottheimer voiced criticism towards the Trump Administration, stating that “The Trump Administration is gutting firefighter cancer research and slashing support for the World Trade Center Health Program — a slap in the face to our first responders. My Fight Fires and Fight Cancer Act will help stop these reckless cuts and protect the workers supporting.”
Later the same day, Gottheimer expressed grief over the passing of a well-regarded New Jersey political reporter, acknowledging that “My team and I worked with Matt for many years as he covered New Jersey politics. This is very sad news. He was a dedicated reporter whose work made Jersey a better place. May his memory be a blessing.”
Continuing his series of tweets, Gottheimer addressed his recognition of International Workers’ Day, emphasizing support for laborers striving for improved conditions. He tweeted, “On International Workers’ Day, we celebrate the hardworking men and women of labor who fight every day for better wages, safer working conditions, and good-paying jobs and benefits. As a member of the @Labor_Caucus, I’ll never stop fighting for Jersey’s hardworking families.”
Gottheimer continues to actively address issues affecting New Jersey’s constituents and uphold his commitment to first responders and workers.
