Josh Gottheimer, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has called for action regarding utility prices and energy costs. Gottheimer, a native of Livingston, New Jersey, and currently residing in Wyckoff, expressed his concerns via Twitter on April 21, 2025.
In one tweet, Gottheimer called on New Jersey’s utility companies to reverse rising prices. He emphasized, “Second, I’m calling on New Jersey’s utility companies to reverse their price increases and fighting back against the monopolies that are jacking up prices. Jersey families just can’t afford higher prices now, especially with Trump’s tariffs wreaking havoc and gutting people’s”. He appears to be strongly opposing the financial burden placed on families by increased tariffs and monopolistic practices.
The congressman voiced his disapproval of PJM’s actions, tweeting, “Jersey families shouldn’t have to pay the price of PJM’s jaw-dropping incompetence. I’m fighting to ensure they don’t have to.” This highlights Gottheimer’s efforts to protect New Jersey families from what he perceives as unnecessary cost increases linked to energy management failures.
Gottheimer further indicated his collaboration with state leaders seeking a formal investigation, tweeting, “First, I’m joining state leaders in calling on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission @FERC to immediately investigate PJM @pjminterconnect — our energy grid operator — for skyrocketing costs from overpaying at auction.” His request for an investigation aims to scrutinize PJM’s financial decisions regarding auction overpayments.
Josh Gottheimer, who holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Harvard University, continues to address issues affecting his constituents with a focus on fairness and affordability.
