U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer, who serves New Jersey’s 5th district, has used his social media platform to address concerns about federal tax disparities, government shutdown impacts, and recent developments in the Middle East.
On October 8, 2025, Gottheimer wrote on X: “Jersey pays far more in taxes than we get back — while Moocher States reap the benefits. Now the government shutdown is halting critical services, meaning we’re paying even more for less. That’s why I’m fighting to claw back more dollars to our region and to reopen the”. The same day, he commented on international affairs: “I’m encouraged by the reports of progress toward a potential hostage deal and peace in Gaza. Now more than ever, let’s push to get it across the finish line.” On October 9, 2025, he posted: “My statement on the recently announced agreement to bring the hostages home https://t.co/GbGmbEx5TK”.
Josh Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Scott Garrett. Born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, Gottheimer holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Harvard University.
