U.S. Representative Josh Gottheimer, who serves New Jersey’s 5th district, posted a series of tweets addressing the ongoing government shutdown, its impact on families relying on SNAP benefits, and recognizing local community leadership.
On October 30, 2025, Gottheimer highlighted the importance of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for families in his state. He wrote, “Hundreds of thousands of families — including more than 800,000 people in New Jersey — rely on SNAP to put food on the table for their children. The Trump Administration can — and should — use the funds Congress already gave them to keep the program going. I’m proud that our https://t.co/beg8FBdMXb”.
Later that day, he addressed concerns about the federal government shutdown and its effects on access to food assistance. On October 30, 2025, he stated, “It is week four of the shutdown, and millions of families are wondering if they will have access to food to feed their children at the end of the week. Yet President Trump won’t even take a meeting with us to end the shutdown and reopen the government in a bipartisan way.”
The following morning, on October 31, 2025, Gottheimer recognized Diane Taylor for her longstanding community service. He tweeted: “Diane Taylor started ‘Pass It Along,’ a nonprofit organization that has helped children raise money to help families in North Jersey for more than 25 years. I proudly nominated Diane as a #NJ5HometownHero for her work to inspire our future generations of change leaders!”
Josh Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District in Congress since defeating Scott Garrett in 2017. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, Gottheimer holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
