Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on April 16, 2026, addressing issues ranging from senior protection to tax policy and national security.

In his first post at 14:00 UTC, Gottheimer highlighted his collaboration with AARP in Washington. He wrote, “Great to see @AARP in Washington fighting for older Americans. We discussed crucial legislation that I’m leading including the Senior Security Act and GUARD Act.

We have more work to do to protect our seniors from scams, fraud, and financial exploitation. I’ll keep fighting to https://t.co/vBwJpiYy6R“.

Later that day at 16:00 UTC, Gottheimer turned his attention to family finances and tax policy. He stated, “This fight is personal.

It’s about families at the kitchen table, stretching every dollar, only to get punished by the tax code for being marriedIt’s about getting hit with thousands more in taxes just because you’re married.

That’s wrong, and I’m working to fix it.”

In another post at the same time regarding international security concerns, he commented on reports involving Iran’s use of foreign intelligence resources. Gottheimer wrote, “This is outrageous!

Reports that Iran used a Chinese satellite to target U.S. troops are a flashing red warning sign and follow reports that Russia offered similar intelligence assistance to Iran. We must stand strong against our enemies.

I expect the President to raise this”.

Gottheimer has represented New Jersey’s 5th District since 2017 after succeeding Scott Garrett. Born in Livingston in 1975 and currently residing in Wyckoff, he holds degrees from the University of Pennsylvania (BA) and Harvard University (JD).
