Josh Gottheimer, a U.S. Congressman representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently shared his views on significant issues through a series of tweets. The Democratic representative has consistently voiced his support for reproductive rights, voting rights, and healthcare for vulnerable populations.
On June 7, 2025, Gottheimer reflected on the importance of the Griswold v. Connecticut decision in protecting Americans’ rights to make private medical decisions, including contraception. He emphasized his commitment as a member of the Reproductive Caucus to combat “far-right attacks” that he believes are threatening reproductive freedoms. “For 60 years, Griswold v. Connecticut has enshrined the right of Americans to make private medical decisions — including the right to contraception.”
Later that day, he highlighted the ongoing early in-person voting process in New Jersey, urging residents to participate and have their voices heard before the conclusion on June 8. Gottheimer described voting as “the most sacred right we have.” “The most sacred right we have is the right to vote, and early in-person voting is currently underway in New Jersey — through Sunday, June 8.”
In another post on June 7, Gottheimer addressed Medicaid’s role in supporting adults with disabilities and seniors living in nursing homes in New Jersey. He condemned any reductions in assistance as “cruel and heartless,” aligning such measures against what he termed “Jersey Values.” “In Jersey, 40% of those on Medicaid are adults with disabilities, and an estimated 60% live in nursing homes.”
Born in Livingston and now residing in Wyckoff at age 48, Gottheimer graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a JD from Harvard University.
