Rep. Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 18 and 19, 2025, addressing recent legislative actions and commemorative events.

On July 18, Gottheimer criticized congressional efforts to cut funding for public broadcasting. He wrote, “Last night, extremists in Congress jammed through a far-right plan to defund public broadcasting — gutting public safety alerts and ending educational children’s shows like Sesame Street. It also slashes humanitarian aid and weakens America’s global leadership, ceding ground to https://t.co/CeruJEmZvy” (July 18, 2025).

Later that day, he reflected on Nelson Mandela’s legacy and his own involvement in honoring the former South African president. Gottheimer stated, “Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to promoting peace, freedom, and improving the lives of others. It was an honor to meet him while working at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. To remember his legacy, I was proud to help lead a resolution recognizing today as Nelson Mandela https://t.co/dleDHey1iv” (July 18, 2025).

On July 19, Gottheimer highlighted new House legislation concerning cryptocurrency regulation: “This week, the House passed critical legislation to establish clear rules of the road for crypto. These bills include key consumer protections to crack down on scammers, while encouraging investment and ensuring America remains a global leader on cryptocurrency.
