Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, has recently made several statements via social media addressing issues related to Israel and the Middle East. His posts cover topics ranging from international criticism to personal stories of constituents affected by regional conflicts.
On June 20, 2025, Gottheimer expressed his concerns regarding UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese. He stated that she “hasn’t just criticized Israel — she has repeatedly spewed antisemitic hate.” He emphasized that “The UN cannot be allowed to continue unjustifiably targeting Israel.”
In a subsequent post on June 21, 2025, Gottheimer addressed the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its impact on Israel. He highlighted the importance of ensuring safety for Americans in the region, stating: “As Iran continues its vicious assault on Israel and targets civilians, we must ensure the safety of all Americans in the region.” To this end, he mentioned leading a bipartisan effort urging the Administration to develop evacuation plans for those seeking to leave.
Later that day, Gottheimer shared a personal story about his constituent Edan Alexander. On June 21, he recounted how Alexander was held hostage by Hamas terrorists for 584 days. Gottheimer celebrated Alexander’s return home by stating: “My constituent Edan Alexander is an all-American kid who was held hostage at the hands of Hamas terrorists for 584 days… Now, thankfully, he is back home in Tenafly, NJ with his family — and they never gave up hope for a second.”
Gottheimer was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff. He holds degrees from both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University.
