Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New Jersey’s 5th district since 2017, recently shared several statements on social media reflecting on significant national and local issues. Gottheimer, who was born in Livingston, New Jersey in 1975 and currently resides in Wyckoff, took to Twitter to express his views.
On June 19, 2025, Rep. Gottheimer commemorated Juneteenth by highlighting its historical significance. He stated that “160 years ago, America marked a new chapter in our country’s story and finally ended the scourge of slavery.” He emphasized the importance of continuing to work towards freedom, justice, and equality.
Later that day, he addressed an upcoming weather concern for his constituents. At 14:40 UTC on June 19th, he tweeted about an impending heat wave in New Jersey: “The first heat wave of the summer is coming to Jersey this week, so make sure to stay cool and safe!” He provided resources for locating cooling centers via a link and NJ’s helpline.
In another tweet posted at 19:03 UTC on June 19th, Rep. Gottheimer raised concerns about TikTok’s influence in America. He claimed that “Using TikTok, the Chinese government has the ability to control what an entire generation of Americans see and consume every single day — while spewing disinformation.” He called for action against what he perceives as threats posed by TikTok.
